APEX: Explore the Latest dCS DAC Upgrade
Enjoy Enhanced Performance from Your Digital Audio
As one of the top hi-fi audio companies in Morris County, NJ, it’s our mission to provide the best possible sonic experience for our clients. As certified dealers for some of the top brands in the audio industry, we get first access to many new features and products. So, we believe informing our customers when new products and technologies become available is a big part of our job. It’s one of the things that differentiates us from run-of-the-mill retail stores.
With that in mind, as dCS dealers, we recently learned of a brand-new hardware upgrade that will significantly improve the performance of the company’s music systems. Available starting in March 2022, the dCS Ring DAC APEX allows for a greater range of sound and enhanced musical performance from the company’s digital-analog converters.
While this new version of the Ring DAC will be available in all future dCS products, there is also a hardware and software upgrade available for those that already own the legacy products.

dCS History of Innovation
dCS is an audiophile favorite precisely because of the company’s constant innovation, regularly improving the performance of their existing systems through hardware and software upgrades. They know true audiophiles expect their products to be a lifelong investment, and they try to honor that by providing all the support needed to make products perform at their best for years.
In 2017, they revamped the software mapping behind the Ring DAC at the center of their music systems. Then, in 2020, they added a headphone optimization specifically for their headphone DAC. The latest major revamp comes in the form of APEX–a new version of the dCS Ring DAC behind the Vivaldi and Rossini systems.
What Does the APEX Upgrade Entail?
Based on client feedback and extensive internal research, the APEX upgrade reconfigures the circuit board at the center of the Ring DAC to improve precision and timing accuracy. It also adds a brand-new analog output stage.
The project first began with the initial software revamp in 2017. The goal was to find out how to make similar improvements from a hardware perspective. It took looking at every tiny component to see what changes would generate better results.
In the end, what does this new architecture accomplish? First, it meets the primary goal of all audiophiles: further reducing signal distortion. And it also allows for greater linearity and a measured improvement at all sound frequencies.
