Tunable lighting control can change the correlated color temperature (CCT) output of white lighting sources (usually LED bulbs). CCT is measured in degrees Kelvin (K). A light’s color temperature directly correlates with our perceptions of what the light looks like.

There are three common types of tunable lighting.

Dim to warm lighting: bulb outputs fall in the range of 1800K – 2700K. This type of lighting produces warm white light with yellow and orange tones. Dim to warm lighting resembles candlelight, firelight, and the amber glow of the rising or setting sun.

Tunable white lighting: bulb outputs fall in the range of 2700K – 6500K. This type of lighting produces cool white light with blue tones. Tunable white lighting mimics the hues and intensity of daylight.

Color tunable lighting: color tunable lights use the three primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) to create the full range of colored light across the spectrum. Full-color tuning moves beyond white light to produce light with distinct colors.
